A WAVE of sadness has swept over the Tweed Shire this week after the much-loved Murwillumbah local 18-year-old Kayla Hufton passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Condolences are flowing to the family as the shock of her loss was announced on the ‘Kisses for Kayla’ social media page.

Kayla touched the hearts and minds of hundreds of residents and maintained a strong connection to the Tweed Shire community, despite grappling with a devastating cancer diagnosis several years ago.

Residents have describing her as a beautiful, smart, funny, sweet, courageous and strong young woman who will be both missed and forever in the hearts of many in the community.
Kayla was diagnosed with a rare cancerous growth in her chest.

News of her passing has quickly circulated around the Shire, with dozens of messages of condolences to Kayla’s family via social media.

“Rest in Peace Kayla, my thoughts and prayers are with the family,” one comment reads.

“So sad to hear this, have a safe journey darling girl,” another comment reads.

The family posted on the page recently that she had lost her battle with the cancer.

“Our beautiful warrior grew her wings today, she is now in heaven,” the post reads.

“You are the strongest most courageous most beautiful girl. We love you so very much.”

A funeral service will take place at the Gilbey Centre at Mt St Patrick College on Thursday, March 15, at 10am.
