The Local Tweed Hockey comp has started with a bang with all local teams playing in first grade only.

Results in the Menโ€™s

Murwillumbah 1 defeated Waratah Cougars 0.
Kingscliff 1 defeated Waratah Bobcats 0.
Casuarina 3 defeated Murwillumbah 1.
In the menโ€™s they are playing a 9s comp with shorter games and Waratahs who have entered two teams the Association has decided that a team will play two games on the same night which will eliminate the bye.

Results in the Womenโ€™s

Kingscliff 3 defeated Waratah Falcons 1.
Casurina 3 defeated Murwillumbah 1.
Mullumbimy had the bye.
In the Womenโ€™s comp real great news is that Mullumbimby has once again entered a first grade team after 10 Years in the outer. This has now created a bye but fantastic news for all hockey supporters.

Kingscliff Hockey club had a great start to the first grade Hockey season with both their Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s teams winning on the weekend.

In the Menโ€™s new Coach Michael Kennedy blooded six new players as they came away with a great win 1-0 over last years premiers Waratahs Bobcats. It was a back stick Tomma Hawk shot in the fist half by new signing Chris Faye that got their only goal as Kingscliff had to defend hard and their evergreen Goal Keeper Sam Laskoski was to good and keep a clean net.

The Womenโ€™s also had a fantastic win defeating last years premiers as well defeating Waratah Falcons 3-1 with new signing Eric Wells scoring a double and Caira Laybutt getting the other as Kingscliff withstood a lot of pressure from the Waratahs who applied plenty of attacking raids but a strong Kingscliff defence was just to good.

In the other Menโ€™s matches we saw Murwillumbah go down 3-1 to Casuarina as the young Casuarina side showed to much fitness to grind down the Murbah boys who clearly got tired at the end.

The other Womenโ€™s match played on Saturday saw Murwillumbah come up against a very classy Casuarina side with the two current Australian Hockeyroos stars in Madison and Savannah Fitzpatrick playing in which Savannah scoring twice from Tomma hawk shots. But Murwillumbah showed great resilience to hit back with goal to Sammy Iwanuscha and they also had other opportunities with Kellie Roatz as Murbah’s best.
