Truck collision causes blaze at Chinderah M1

THE DRIVER of a truck carrying timber that erupted into flames at Chinderah on the Pacific Motorway on Friday, October 28 was lucky to escape with only minor injuries.

The truck carrying timber logs collided with a truck that was parked in a breakdown lane on the Pacific Motorway just after the Tweed Valley Way exit.

The timber ignited causing a spectacular inferno with images and videos since circulating across the local and national media.

Fire and rescue crews attended and extinguished the blaze.

Luckily the driver of the parked truck, a 47-year-old man was not in his vehicle and was not injured.

The driver of the timber truck, a 36-year-old male was transported to The Tweed Hospital and escaped with scratches and a minor neck injury.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours causing long delays.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended the scene and have commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to contact Crime Stoppers.
