A LOCAL SCHOOL, businesses and homes in six Tweed Valley suburbs have been without internet today after a cable was damaged by a third party, according to Telstra.

Telstra crews are scrambling to fix the cable break, which was believed to have occurred near Murwillumbah on a private property.

The Weekly spoke with Telstra to determine how long internet services could be disrupted and estimates indicated it could be repaired sometime today, but a specific time was unavailable at this time.

“A cable has been damaged by a third party which is impacting ADSL services at Stokers Siding as well as landline and ADSL services at Uki, Dum Dum, Mt Warning and Byangum and landline services at Chillingham,” a Telstra media spokesperson told The Weekly.

“We have technicians onsite today and hoping to have repairs completed as soon as possible.”

Telstra Area General Manager Mike Marom said Telstra was working to repair a cable damaged by an independent third party that is impacting some landline and ADSL services in the Tweed Valley.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and can reassure our customers we are working as quickly as possible to restore services,” Mr Marom said.

Telstra has also stressed the importance of using Dial Before You Dig (phone: 1100) in order to avoid cable breaks and damage to other pipelines.
