IT WAS a cracking night for local football with more than 500 people packing the stands of Stan Sercombe Oval, Murwillumbah, today (Saturday, February 4).

Although the Tweed Heads Seagulls went down 22 to the Knight’s 38, the Gulls showed the side was ready for a big season in the Intrust Super Cup tournament.

It was Jack Cogger that scored first try for the Knights and the side showed good form early and lead 28-6 at the break,

The Knights benched a large portion of their experienced players at halftime.

The swap allowed the Seagulls to stage a comeback before the Knights regained in the final quarter.

A big effort went to the Gulls’ David Sheridan who ran more than 90 metres after an intercepted ball.

Knights scores were Jack Cogger, Heath Gibbs, Kainoa Gudgeon (2), Tom Hughes (2), Chanel Mata’utia, fullback Dylan Phythian, Trent Hodkinson (kicked 4/5), Jake McNamara (1/1), Will Pearsall (0/1)

Try scorers for the Gulls were Shane Gillham, Kurt Bernard. Tevita Folau and Dave Sheridan with goals to Michael Burgess (2) and Sam Meskell.
