KINGSCLIFF POLICE are appealing for public assistance to identify two men who allegedly stole several hundreds of dollars from the Woolworths at Bogangar in a cash register scam.

Police said about 2.20pm on Saturday, July 8, the two men approached the checkout and asked a staff member to make change from several hundred dollar notes.

The two men then confused the staff by distracting them and changing their requests several times, and as a result defrauded the store of hundreds of dollars.

Police said this scam has also taken place in Ballina and Southern Queensland.

“People pulling this scam tend to target younger and inexperienced staff,” Police said in a media statement.

“They will often ask then to make change for a large amount of money, then make several changes to their orders while distracting them.

“Police are asking the managers of the larger stores to speak to their staff about this issue.”

If you can identify either of these two men please contact Kingscliff Police Station on 6674 9399 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000. Police reference is E63866520#LismoreScamWatch
