POSSUM PLASMA Cutting owner Mick Williams has lived in the Tweed Shire with his wife Jane, since 1994 and has been based in Bray Park since 1999.

After running a successful auto repair shop in South Tweed known as Expo Auto Repairs and having been in and out of metal fabrication since the early 1970s, Mick decided to follow his dream and start Possum Plasma Cutting.

“I actually started Possum Plasma Cutting at home in 2004, after importing a CNC plasma table from the US and diving into CAD designing metal art before purchasing the present factory at the beginning of 2006,” Mr Williams said.

“I’ve had the pleasure of doing some amazing work for local people, businesses and farmers since then, examples of which are dotted around the shire and can also be found around the country and the world for that matter.

“I enjoy taking someone’s idea, drawing or photo and turning it into metal art, signage or machinery components.

“I have more than 4,000 fonts on file, so if you want a sign for the front of your house or business, I can basically create anything you want or match the fonts used in logos.”

Last year’s flood devastated Mick’s business, but he was determined to rebuild his business.

“It really took the wind out of my sails and I’d have to say my biggest achievement has been the ability to scramble out of the pit of despair and rebuild the business to something resembling what it was before the deluge,” he said.

Mr Williams said that although he was getting a bit older he’s not ready for retirement.

“I’m a firm believer in the saying, if you don’t use it, you lose it,” he said.

“That being the case, I fully intend on using it for a good while yet.”

To find out more about this fantastic local business, visit Mick’s workshop from Monday to Thursday at Mayfield Street, Murwillumbah or call him to discuss your ideas on (02) 6672 3019.
