A 46-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged with theft after police busted her stealing from a Tweed Heads Op Shop in the early hours of Sunday, May 21.
Police said at about 3.20am they spotted the woman rummaging through donated goods at the RSPCA Op Shop on Boyd Street, Tweed Heads.
“The female was within the boundary of the property that is clearly sign posted as Private Property,” Police said in a media statement.
“After speaking with the female, Police formed the opinion that she was under the influence of a drug and issued her with a move on direction and a warning regarding being on private property.”
The woman returned to the scene of the crime approximately twenty minutes later and was again seen rummaging through two large bags of donated clothing.
This time she was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where she was charged with stealing and failing to comply with a move on direction.
Police said upon further investigation they found the female had three prior offences of stealing from charity organisations.
She will appear before the Tweed Heads Local Court on June 5.
