The NRRRL has decided the Murwillumbah Mustangs will not replay the semi final that was ceased on Sunday following the collapse and tragic death of Grant Cook.
NRRRL President Brian Rix said he consulted Mr Cook’s family before deciding this weekend’s grand final will go ahead with the Mustangs to play Cudgen, an all local affair.
“I’ve been in contact with both clubs, both Casino and Murwillumbah, and made sure that they understand the decision,” he told the media.
“We spoke to the police and we’ve spoken to some executive members of the Country Rugby League and our decision is the game is as it stands at half time of the game on Sunday.
“That is that Murwillumbah have won the game 8-4.
“It won’t be replayed and they’ll move on into the grand final.
“I spoke with Grant’s dad and he was adamant that he wanted the boys to continue and make sure they played.”
The grand final will no doubt serve as a tribute to Grant. Meanwhile the Mustangs have set up an account to assist Coleen and the family through this tough time.
