Murwillumbah woman charged with fraud

TWEED POLICE have charged a 40-year-old woman following investigations into the alleged fraud of a business in Murwillumbah.

Detectives from Tweed Heads Local Area Command began investigations after receiving reports that a former employee of a local business, who has not been named, had allegedly defrauded the company of funds, estimated to be in excess of $130,000.

Poilce said in a media statement that inquiries established that the woman had allegedly defrauded the business since December 2009, before she was dismissed in March 2017.

About 11am on Tuesday, May 9, investigators attended a home in Bray Park and executed a search warrant.

Officers seized documentation and electronic devices which will be forensically examined.
A 40-year-old woman was arrested at the scene.

She was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with seven counts of steal property as clerk/servant.

The woman was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Murwillumbah Local Court on Tuesday, May 23.

Police said further charges were expected.
