TWEED POLICE are investigating a horrific crash on the Pacific Highway at Cudgera Creek just after 2.30pm today (Sunday, September 9).

Police said a VW Tiguan and a Kia Sorento collided causing the VW to roll multiple times.

“The driver, a man aged in his 40s, has been airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital with head injuries,” police said.

“Two children, also travelling in the VW, have been taken to Tweed Heads Hospital. Their ages and conditions aren’t yet known.

“The female driver of the Kia wasn’t injured and has been taken to hospital for mandatory testing.”

In an earlier update the Westpac Rescue Helicopter said the accident involved a rollover and the ages of the children was four years old and six-months old.

A witness told The Weekly she had spotted one of the vehicles travelling at speed.

“He came past me just before it happened,” the witness said.

“Guy was doing at least 170 and lost control with his two babies in the car. Horrendous.”

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
