Footy’s back, with Quinny

THE FOOTY is back in 2022 and don’t we need a welcome distraction at the moment.  It has been a hell of a few days with plenty more to come on the Flood front.

Mustangs and Colts didn’t fare too well with both clubs going under and our friends in Mullumbimby had a rough time of it also.

I am thoroughly enjoying the three games back to back at the one venue for the NRLW.

The women’s game is progressing so well at the moment and has a huge amount of momentum.

Two seasons in one this year will only strengthen the progress and headway they are making.  There are some proper athletes and serious footballers involved in the competition.

Ali Brigginshaw is a genuine superstar of the sport and steers the all conquering Broncos ship around brilliantly and is complemented by plenty including super athlete Shenae Ciesiolka.    Evania Pelite the fullback from the Titans was brilliant on the weekend and the Tweed’s own Jamie Chapman was electric in the indigenous game.

The big boys return this weekend and what a year it will be. I feel the Panthers will be dominant again this year. The Storm have lost several players but still possess Bromwich x 2, Grant, Hughes, Munster, Papenhuyzen – that’s plenty of strike power.

Manly have been impressive in the trials and the Roosters will return with great gusto having a full complement of players on deck including Keary, Suaali and Radley.

Fingers crossed the Titans can continue the improvement and go a few weeks deeper into the finals this year.

I love the appointment of Tino as captain, he is a genuine leader who competes wholeheartedly every game.

I’ll upset a few but I think the Rabbits will struggle without Reynolds this year.

I don’t think he will make an immediate difference to the Broncos but him not in the seven for the Rabbits is a huge loss.  I’m looking forward to watching the progress of a few, particularly Selwyn Cobbo from the Broncos who is a clone of Justin Hodges and Toby Sexton at the Titans who after a few games last year has been handed the reins of our team on the coast.  It was awesome to see a few of our local juniors get a run in the trials for the Titans also.

The Laurie Daley, Andrew Johns, Mens and Women’s country championships are in full swing (albeit delayed due to weather).  Our Andrew Johns u/16’s teams need a result next game against Newcastle to qualify and if the opens win they will finish top four and qualify for the semi finals.

See you at the footy. Quinny
