TWEED PALLIATIVE Support’s non-government funded hospice, Wedgetail Retreat, has received some much-needed financial help in the form of a donation from First National Real Estate Murwillumbah.

Tweed Palliative Support President and Volunteer Coordinator, Meredith Dennis, was presented with a cheque for $8,600 on Monday, January 21.

“Meredith and the Wedgetail Retreat are amazing at what they do to help the community and two of our staff had relatives that stayed there recently who were thoroughly cared for and at peace in such a beautiful, caring space,” said First National Murwillumbah Assistant Manager Sarah Reading.

Wedgetail Retreat assists clients with a life-limiting illness and their families by providing a home-like environment where the vulnerable and disadvantaged are cared for free of charge.

The modern home is set in a beautiful local forest and has registered nursing staff and more than 80 volunteers assisting residents.

“As a way to give back they were nominated as our chosen charity,” Mrs Reading said.

“We donated $200 from every property sold between July 2018 to December 2018.”

Ms Reading said that the donation to Wedgetail was part of their company’s ongoing commitment to donate a percentage of their sales back into the local community.

“We donate $200 from every property sale to a local charity or community group every six months,” she said.

“In the last 18 months we have donated over $25,000 to local charity and community groups including $10,000 to Debra (Butterfly Children), $7,400 to the You Have A Friend Inc charity and now $8,600 to Wedgetail Retreat.”

First National Murwillumbah also recently announced the next organisation to benefit from the sale of properties.

“Our chosen charity for January to June 2019 is the Tweed District Rescue Squad,” she said.

“They are a first response team of volunteers that risk their lives every day to help save lives.”

The squad provide primary response rescue services across the Tweed Shire and surrounding areas including road crash rescues, industrial and domestic accidents, vertical rescues and land search and rescue.
