THE MURBAH Swamp Beer is brewing at Stone & Wood in South Murwillumbah in anticipation of the third annual Open Day taking place on Saturday, March 30.
The open days have so far raised tens-of-thousands of dollars for Tweed Palliative Support Wedgetail Retreat, which last year raised more than $30,000.
The event will again take place between 11am and 5pm and locals and visitors are invited to the all-day, family-friendly event of beer, food and music, complete with market stalls, food trucks, a kids’ area and brewery tours for those keen to get behind the scenes.
Additionally, paying homage to the legendary Murwillumbah story of the beer truck that crashed into the Tweed River on Boxing Day and the ‘heroic’ tales of locals diving in to save the beer, Stone & Wood will again brew the highly sought after Murbah Swamp Beer for the event, along with putting it on tap at local venues.
Last year, profits from Murwillumbah Open Day helped raise more than $30,000 for Stone & Wood’s national not-for-profit, the inGrained Foundation, which directed the total amount to Wedgetail Retreat.
Stone & Wood’s Community Manager Jasmin Daly said this is the third year the independent brewery has partnered with Wedgetail Retreat, whose vital services continue to receive strong community feedback.
“The work that Meredith and her team do, caring for our community, is inspirational,” Ms Daly said.
“We’ve seen the respite, refuge and tranquillity they provide for those with life limiting illnesses and also the support they give to the families in their time of need.”
Wedgetail Retreat president Meredith Dennis (OAM) heaped praised on Stone & Wood staff for their commitment to the open day and their continued support of Wedgetail Retreat.
Due to Wedgetail Retreat’s ongoing need for support, Stone & Wood, through their inGrained Foundation, are looking forward to also partnering with Wedgetail Retreat for the next three years.
Transfers between the Murwillumbah brewery (35 Kite Crescent, South Murwillumbah) the Tweed Coast and Byron Bay will be provided by Mt Warning Tours.
