AN 87-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with dangerous driving following a motorbike crash that tragically took the life of Dann Jenkins on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Numinbah.
It was 10.15am when Dann’s motorbike was struck by Toyota Hilux utility at the intersection of Numinbah Road and Couchy Creek Road, Numinbah, approximately 6km from the NSW-Queensland border. Sadly Dann, aged 22 died at the scene.
The driver of the Hilux, an 87-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to Murwillumbah Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and following investigations on Wednesday, February 1, the driver of the Hilux was charged with dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving causing death and not giving way to a vehicle.
He is due to face Murwillumbah Local Court on Tuesday, March 28.
Whilst this is a tragedy with the loss of a young life
This young man was seen speeding on this piece of road by other road users so why has the innocent elderly gentleman been charged for something that rider could have easily averted himself by riding at a responsible speed.
