THE WEEKLY would like to apologise for a story that appeared on page 6 of this week’s edition that was incorrect.

Editor Jonathon Howard made a mistake when he failed to check the date of a letter that was completely taken out of context.

Tweed Shire Council General Manager Troy Green sent a letter to a Byron Bay newspaper in early 2016 which was yesterday posted to The Weekly via Facebook.

Mr Green made no public statement for the article about Council’s role in koala conservation and did not make any comment on claims made by any groups.

The quotes published in the article were taken from a Facebook post of a response provided last year on a different issue.

At all times during discussions about the Pottsville Men’s Shed, Tweed Shire Council has endeavoured to work constructively and impartially to achieve positive outcomes for the community and the environment.

The editor failed to see the date of the letter and the comments made by Mr Green were taken out of context as they were written in May 2016 and the story had no foundation.

The Weekly will retract the statements and seek any follow-up comments from Mr Green.

We would like to give our apologies to Mr Green for the error and we will print a correction in next week’s edition.
