OUTSTANDING MURWILLUMBAH sculpter and renowned artist Jack Quilter is the featured Murwillumbah Art Trail 2018 (MAT18) artist of the week.

A passionate local, Jack has been fine tuning his love of sculpting for more than a decade and produces a range of artworks often from reclaimed metals.

The Weekly caught up with Jack to talk about his latest works as well as his inclusion in MAT18 in May this year.

“I have been living and working around the Tweed Shire for several years, based in Hastings Point and my factory in South Murwillumbah,” he said.

“I have been practicing metalwork sculpture since 2005, I make artworks using materials gathered from around the caldera, much of these materials are sourced from cane and cattle farms, scrap metal yards and friends.

“I am currently working on a series of garden sculptures titled stars and suns constructed and welded using old farm iron and unusual metal objects.”

Jack said he hopes to present most of his works during MAT18 as well as Swell Sculpture Festival in Currumbin.

“I’m really excited about being a part of MAT18 this year,” he said.

“It’s a great event and features some incredible artists from across the Tweed Shire.

“During MAT18 my latest works will be on exhibition at my sculpture studio in Holstons Lane, South Murwillumbah.

“I’m also looking forward to exhibiting at Swell Sculpture Festival in Currumbin on the Gold Coast.

“I’ve been exhibiting with Swell on and off since 2005 and this year I am creating a piece that captures the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean.

“Standing over three meters in diameter, the morning sun will form and be framed by this intricate metal assemblage.”
