POLICE HAVE arrested one person after a brazen break and enter at Banora Central Shopping Centre on Saturday, February 24, as the hunt continues for a second person.

Police said it was about 4am when an employee arrived for work to the rear of the shopping centre and heard noises from the office area.

The employee told police he saw sparks flying and realised someone was using a grinder inside the store.

“The employee saw two people, who were both wearing hooded jumpers and had masks with skull designs printed on them, covering their face,” police said

“The employee went back to the team room and collected his bag and phone before he went to the toilets and called triple 000.”

Officers arrived a short time later and entered the building.

Police said two officers confronted the two people with their guns drawn, when the suspects attempted to flee the scene.

“One person was chased and arrested on site. The other person was able to escape arrest,” Police said in a media statement.

“A crime scene was established for forensic testing. The person was later arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station for questioning and charging.”

Police said the person arrested was charged with break and enter and stealing offences and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on the 19th March 2018.

Police are following up a number of leads regarding the second person’s identity.
