Police appeal after child approached in Murwillumbah

POLICE ARE appealing for public assistance following a child approach incident that occurred in Murwillumbah.

Officers said it was about 3.45pm yesterday (Wednesday, October 18) when they were told a 13-year-old girl was walking on Prince Street, Murwillumbah, when a rusty red four-door sedan car pulled up next to her.

Police have been told the man spoke to the girl and offered her a lift but she ran home and reported the incident to her mother.

Police attached to Tweed/Byron Local Area Command commenced an investigation.

Officers wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man has been described as having a dark complexion, aged between 35-45, medium build, dark hair with a crew cut hairstyle, stubble and wearing a tattered white or cream singlet.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward (see below for police contacts).

This is the second incident following a Police appeal for information after a child was approach at about 1.40pm on Friday, October 13, at Bilambil Heights.

A child answered a knock at the front door of her premises and spoke with a male person described  as being in his late thirties or early forties, olive complexion approximately six foot tall, scruffy dark beard, jet-black scruffy hair, black circles around his eyes, wearing a navy t-shirt, brown coloured stretch jeans, no shoes and a large gold necklace.

The male spoke with an American accent.

The male person of interest (POI) spoke inappropriately to the child and left the premises when the child alerted her mother.

Police are making further inquiries in relation to this incident and are asking for public assistance to try and locate the POI.
