TWEED POLICE were forced to use pepper spray, a taser and a baton to arrest a naked man believed to be on drugs and acting crazy on the streets of Kingscliff on Wednesday, October 4.

Police said it was about 11.20am when they were called to a hotel on Salt Beach with reports of a naked man behaving strangely and rambling to staff.

Upon arrival, officers spotted the man just outside the front doors of the resort and the witnesses nearby.

Police attempted to arrest the man, however he started backing away muttering and rambling.

“Police grabbed his arms to escort him to the police vehicle when the male began to struggle and flail his arms causing one officer to be thrown onto the ground before the male ran away,” a police statement to the media said.

“A short time later whilst patrolling for the man, police located him at the intersection of Casuarina Way and Point Break Circuit.”

Police said he was standing in the middle of the road attempting to cover his genitals and officers again attempted to place him under arrest, however he violently resisted causing police to deploy OC spray (pepper spray) which they said had “no affect on the male”.

“The male continued to weave across the road and into bushland causing danger to himself and other road users,” police said.

“As a result of the OC spray having nil impact on the accused and the fact police were involved in a violent confrontation officers were forced to deploy a taser in an attempt to bring him under control.

“The taser had no impact on the drug affected male who eventually after the further use of OC spray and the use of the Police baton was arrested.”

The man was refused bail and will appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, October 9.
