PRIME MINISTER Malcolm Turnbull and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will visit South Murwillumbah at noon today (Monday, April 3) to assess the flood damage and meet with business owners.

The visit follows widespread flooding across the Northern Rivers including major damage at South Murwillumbah, Uki, Burringbar, Tumbulgum, Condong, Banora Point and locations across Tweed Heads as well as further south at Lismore and many more.

Prime Minister Turnbull and Premier Berejiklian were joined by Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant and visited Tweed Heads at 10.45am followed by Banora Point and Murwillumbah at noon and will continue their visits down to Lismore.

Meanwhile, Tweed Shire Council has announced the tip at Stotts Creek is closed to the public today (Monday, April 4) due to flooded access roads.

“Residential bin services as usual, except where roads are flooded,” council said.

In further assistance those affected by the floods and in need of a hot shower and a clean toilet can visit the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centres at Murwillumbah, Kingscliff and Tweed Heads.

Residents can get a free hot shower and use bathroom facilities all throughout today. There are disabled facilities too. The Murwillumbah pool is closed for swimming today.

“Thanks to community members for the suggestion! This is an awesome community, all pulling together at this time.”
