WINTERSUN HAS been confirmed for Murwillumbah on June 2-5 and it could be here to stay according to organisers Aces and Eights Event Management.

The Weekly recently caught up with Wintersun 2.0 organiser Steve Bowman who said the event was set to be a future benchmark for future events.

“Wintersun 2.0 is the culmination of ideas that many car, motorcycle and music enthusiasts have had for quite some time. An event run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts (and also a spectacle for the public) that is enjoyable and includes all the aspects of the scene,” he said.

“Included will be the opportunity for entrants to drive/ride and enjoy their vehicles during the event, pin-ups and vintage clothing competition, art and Kulture display, trade stands and some great food.

“The name harks back to the old Wintersun festival in Coolangatta which had a great friendly and laid back atmosphere.

“There will be many differences between the old event and Wintersun 2.0 but that atmosphere is something we will strive to create.

“This 2017 event is a proof of concept. As we move through the next few years we hope (with Council cooperation) to involve more of the Murwillumbah and surrounding community in a wide variety of new events but all within the same theme.”

Mr Bowman said he has a strong desire to keep the event in the Tweed and heaped praise on the local communities.

“The Tweed is a beautiful area and everyone we’ve dealt with has been friendly and very supportive. I can see a long and prosperous future for the event and the area,” he said.

“We hope the event will run in Murwillumbah indefinitely. Dates for the first event are June 2 to June 5 and future events will be around the same time of year.”

Mr Bowman said his hopes the event will attract a range of different autos and people with favourable weather.

“Great weather and a good crowd. More diversity and the expansion of the event into the streets Murwillumbah to enhance the economic benefit the local traders,” he said.

“All cars are welcome up to the 1978 cut-off,” he said.

“Later model classics are by invitation. We are expecting a large turnout of Hot Rods, Classics, Customs and Muscle cars and classic and modified motorcycles such as Cafe Racers, Bobbers and Classic Choppers. Music will by a mix of Rockabilly, Blues, Country and Rock and Roll.”

For motoring enthusiasts, how can they get involved?

“If they have a pre-1978 vehicle bring it along. Entry forms will be available in the next couple of weeks via the web site and Facebook. This is a friendly family event so any car/bike enthusiasts don’t currently own a classic vehicle are welcome to come along as spectators. Maybe they’ll get fired up to buy a classic and become a new entrant and part of the Wintersun 2.0 family for 2018.”
