BURRINGBAR

Burringbar will host a Family Fun Day celebrating with Burringbar and District for Australia Day at the Burringbar Sports Club and Grounds.

As well as a full program of fun and laughter, there will be a Cricket Competition with mixed gender teams of 10 players and anyone can enter with $300 in prize money.

10am: Dog Presentations sponsored by the Tweed Pet Kingdom. Prizes for: Best dressed dog, Best behaved dog, Cutest dog, Best Australiana dog. Registration 10am – 10.30am with judging to follow.
10.30am: Story Dog information presentation.
11am: Best Dressed bike to be presented.
11.30am: Gold Coast MG Car Club arrival.
12am:   Flag raising ceremony.
1pm: Children’s activities with water play to follow, golf nearest the pin competition to commence.
2pm: Announcement and presentation of Citizen Awards and winners of competition.
2.30pm: Cow Pat Lotto., 3pm: Bowls
From 3pm Live Local Music with: Genevieve Martin (young violinist), Gary Lee, Dirt Music Preachers

CRABBES CREEK

Crabbes Creek Community Hall are holding their annual Breaky in the Creek. Breakfast commences runs from 8.30am-11am at a cost of $10 a head. There will be an awards ceremony for Citizen and Junior Citizen of the Year.

KINGSCLIFF

The Kingscliff Lions Club are hosting a breakfast for members of the Kingscliff community and visitors at the Lions Park, Marine Parade. Breakfast will be served from 7am. The morning also includes a flag raising ceremony, entertainment and Aussie games.

POTTSVILLE

The Lions Club of Cabarita and Pottsville Beach are holding a breakfast and awards ceremony at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School.

TYALGUM

Tyalgum Australia Day Celebrations:
9am: Assemble Floats, Horses, Sportsmen and Women, Bikes and all who wish to be in the Parade at Norco Park.
9.30am: Parade marches to the Flag area outside the Tyalgum Community Hall.
10am: Hall Presentation: Flag Raising and National Anthem, Australia Day Awards, Best decorated floats, bikes, horses award, ‘Acoustic Perfection’ – Janelle Berry, Aussie ‘Sing-Along’ – Dennis and Janelle lead in some great ‘Aussie’ favourites, Morning Tea, Rural Fire Services Brigade displays.
11.30am: International Cricket – Australia vs India, Bruce Bartrim Oval.

TUMBULGUM

The Tumbulgum Community Association will host their traditional free Australia Day breakfast at the Tumbulgum Rangers Sports Field. The breakfast commences at 8am and everyone is welcome.

Australia Day in Tumbulgum will feature a great program including; Award Presentations, Raising of the Flag and Singing of the National Anthem, Live music, Swaggie Making Workshop, Tumbulgum Public School ‘Waltzing Matilda Art Show’ – Prizes to be awarded, Australiana Games such as Whip Cracking, Thong Throwing and and the Tumbulgum vs North Tumbulgum’ Cricket Challenge.

Tumbulgum will face North Tumbulgum in the traditional cricket challenge. The first 20 cricket players on each side to register on the Facebook Tumbulgum Community News & Events site will receive a screen-printed polo shirt to wear and keep after the challenge.

TWEED HEADS

The presentation of the Tweed Shire Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony will be held at the Showroom at Twin Towns Clubs and Resorts from 11am to 12:30pm on Thursday, January 26.

50 new citizens from 16 countries will be pledging their citizenship on Australia Day this year at Twin Towns.

The Tweed Shire Australia Day Award categories include:
• Arts and Culture – This is an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to cultural development within the Tweed Shire community.
• Citizen of the Year – This is an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Tweed Shire community.
• Community Event of the Year – An event that promotes and increases the profile of its local area and/or delivers wider benefits across the Tweed Shire community.
• Sporting Achievement – This award is for an outstanding playing sportsperson, or team, or an ancillary volunteer who has dedicated a lot of time and effort into sports.
• Volunteer of the Year – This is an individual who has made a significant contribution to volunteer within the community.
• Young Achiever in Community Service (under the age of 25 years on 26 January) – A young person 25 years of age and under, who has made a significant contribution to the community.
Following the Official Program attendees are invited to the Stars function room for refreshments.
