THE 14th EDITION of the Tweed Coast Holiday Parks Kingscliff Triathlon is returning to town this Sunday, November 27.

An expected field exceeding 1000 athletes competing in Tempta, Sprint and Olympic distances will be joined by over 150 junior athletes ranging from age 7 to 12.

This is one of the biggest events of the year for the Tweed Coast with thousands of support teams, families and locals getting into the competition spirit.

Local Kingscliff village and accommodation houses are already seeing bookings increase, and event organisers are predicting an increase in registration now that the weather is warming up.

Race Director Mike Crawley reports, “Now that the weather is heating up, people are getting more active, starting their swim training and looking forward to summer.”

“The triathlon in Kingscliff is a real celebration of pre-Christmas racing in a wonderful beachside location in the beautiful Cudgen Creek.”

The triathlon is again offering a “Pinky Starter” category in 2016/2017 for new athletes at a shorter distance.

The whole triathlon program will be benefited by the Council improvements at the Sutherland Street Bridge.  The new bridge will eliminate swim obstructions for athletes with fewer support poles.

Crawley is also excited about the clearer water in Cudgen Creek due to the sand pumping at the boat ramp: “Not only will the pumping improve the flow down the creek, but athletes will love swimming in the clear, healthy water.”

Water safety is once again being managed by the Cudgen Headland Surf Lifesaving Club with seven rescue craft and a team of 25 to protect the 1000 swimmers over five distances.

The event organisers thank the local residents and businesses for working with the event despite any inconvenience caused by road closures from 6.30am to 11am north side; and until 1pm Southside.
