TWEED Police have praised the help of locals in alerting them to a suspicious man lurking in his car near Wharf Street this morning.
Police said it was 9.40am, Sunday September 11, when officers attended Bay Street, near the intersection of Wharf Street, Tweed Heads, after a member of the public called them about a suspicious male located in a parked vehicle there.
Police spoke with a 44-year-old man at the scene. Further inquiries revealed the man had an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic violence matters from Coffs Harbour. Upon being informed of the arrest warrant, the man tried to run from the scene, but was quickly detained by police. He was taken back to Tweed Heads Police Station, refused bail, to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow, 12 September.
Tweed Heads Police wanted to “thank the general public for their assistance in locating this wanted man”.
